The origin of this famous Prague taverndates back to 1895. The place on Vratislavova street no.12 was not picked by a coincidence. It is on the way to the national monument - the Vyšehrad castle, which used to be and still is widely visited by both Czech and foreign tourists. During Communist era, the tavern was shut down and converted to a school cafeteria, which was closed after the end of the regime. This historical site was re-opened in 2003 after a sensitive reconstruction with the participation of the National Heritage Institute. Another reconstruction in 2011 gave the place the current look.

Duke Krok is a mythical figure in Czech history. He began to rule in the 7th century after the death of Forefather Čech. He was considered as flawless thanks to his wisdom, prudence, cleverness and also wealth. This extraordinary man had no male descendants, but he had three daughters, who easily surpassed men thanks to their inherited wisdom. Krok left the former mansion in Budeč and with the help of the gods found a new destined place on the cliff on the right side of the Vltava river. The castle which was built here was called VYŠEHRAD. After his death, his youngest and wisest daughter - beautiful and just princess Libuše began to rule. Not only she was smart, but she also had the gift of seeing the future. One evening while standing on the Vyšehrad cliff, she said the famous prophecy: "I see a great city whose glory will touch the stars.” She ordered to build a castle on the opposite side of the river and a town called PRAHA. The prophecy was fulfilled.
